Albany District Event

From March 23rd – March 25th, our Robo Lions attended our second FRC (First Robotics Competition) tournament at the Albany Civic Center in Albany, Georgia. Similarly to our Gainesville competition, our members all played a vital role in either driving the robot, scouting other teams for data, and working on the robot in the pits. We are so grateful to have such a hardworking team, and it was this willingness to work that carried our team all the way past the 64 qualification matches and the 2nd round of the quaterfinals. Teams 5109 (Gladiator Robotics from Johns Creek High School) and 5219 (TeknoSquad) deserve a shoutout for being such great alliance members during the playoffs. We were also very honored to win the “Innovation in Control” award which was sponsored by Rockwell for our robot’s innovative control system Like Gainesville, this was a fun experience for all members who participated.

Gainesville Competition

From March 3rd – March 5th, our Robo Lions engaged in a rigorous but fun FRC (First Robotics Competition) tournament at Riverside Military Academy in Gainesville. Every member had a large participation in helping our team out, whether they worked on the robot in the pit during matches, drove the robot, collected qualitative/quantitative data, or helped to ensure that our robot was safe to compete! It was a great experience for everyone, and we were very happy to make it past qualifications and make it to the 2nd round of quarterfinals with our alliance partners Toaster Tech (Team 5332) and Robot Reign from Richmond County Technical Magnet School (Team 5734).

Bag and Tag

On February 21, the Robo Lions bagged up our FRC robot! We can not wait to compete this year in FRC Steamworks!

GC Foundation Grant

Today, the Robo Lions received a $3200 Grant from the GCFoundation and Infinite Energy! We would like to thank them for the support!

Parsons STEAM Night

Closer to home, our team took a walk over to Parsons Elementary for STEAM night with an eager group of rookies. They did a great job speaking about the 2016 robot and helping to demonstrate its capabilities. Meanwhile, others supervised youngers who wanted to try their hand at driving the VEX robots. It was a great night for the team as we got to interact with future Robo Lions and look ahead towards the establishment of another FLL team at the school.

Jackson STEAM Night

The team had a wonderful time at Jackson Elementary for their STEAM night! The 2016 robot was a hit and did a great job showing students and parents how we were able to optimize the ways in which hardware and software can work together! For younger kids, VEX robots are closer to their size, so they were thrilled to have the chance to drive them around to play soccer. Thanks to Jackson Elementary for being such great hosts- we had tons of fun meeting your FLL team as well and can’t wait to work with them!

New FRC Game, FIRST Steamworks!

ViaSat Tour

This Tuesday, some of our team went to go visit ViaSat at their facility. A lucky few even got to drive one of their satellites. We had a great time learning about satellite communications and it was a cool experience for all attendees.

GA FIRST Robotics Symposium

What good is knowledge if it isn’t shared? The Robo Lions recently had the honor of presenting a session on Vision Tracking using a Raspberry Pi and Effective Social media at Georgia Tech for the GA FIRST Robotics Symposium. Teams from across the state attended the event which was hosted by the Georgia Tech RoboJackets in the hopes of helping Georgia teams bond and strengthen each other as we get ready for a new game in January. We can’t wait for another season of working with all of our friends!
