This Tuesday, some of our team went to go visit ViaSat at their facility. A lucky few even got to drive one of their satellites. We had a great time learning about satellite communications and it was a cool experience for all attendees.

GA FIRST Robotics Symposium

What good is knowledge if it isn’t shared? The Robo Lions recently had the honor of presenting a session on Vision Tracking using a Raspberry Pi and Effective Social media at Georgia Tech for the GA FIRST Robotics Symposium. Teams from across the state attended the event which was hosted by the Georgia Tech RoboJackets in the hopes of helping Georgia teams bond and strengthen each other as we get ready for a new game in January. We can’t wait for another season of working with all of our friends!

Robots at the Ridge

This Saturday, the 19th of November 2016, the PRHS Robo Lions held their annual Robots at the Ridge Vex Qualifier. The event was a huge blast, and was very successful. One of our teams, team 1261E was even picked for an alliance during alliance selection. We would like to thank all the volunteers, our Judges, and our Referees for making this event great!

Rockwell Automation Fair

We, the Robo Lions, would like to invite all of you to come visit us at the Rockwell Automation Fair, Wednesday 11/9 and Thursday 11/10 from 8-4 in the Georgia World Congress Center in downtown Atlanta. We will be showing off our robot and its many features so make sure to come out and visit!

Trunk or Treat

This week we were at our school’s trunk or treat! Our trunk was a star wars theme which we had nicely decorated. We had a robotastic time from Kobe, our vex bot, showing off his dancer moves with the beatbox club, lightsaber fights, and seeing bunch of ghouls, goblins, and super heroes! This was a great opportunity for our team to go out and have some fun with the halloween spirit.

G.R.I.T.S

Last Saturday, October 22nd, the Robo Lions headed up to Riverside Military Academy in Gainesville for our off-season event, GRITS. Our rookie drivers were able to get some good drive team experience, and their efforts paid off; we ended qualifiers as the 3rd seed alliance captain. Our alliance included teams 4188 and 2974. We played our best in semifinals but were beat out by the 2nd seed alliance, composed of teams 1746, 2415, and 4468. On behalf of team 1261, we would like to offer our sincere congratulations to those teams; they played an excellent set of matches.
We were honored to win the GRITS outreach award due to our large number of rookies, and we would like to extend a thank you to Georgia FIRST as well as the alumni and volunteers who made this event possible!

Trunk or Treat

The Robo Lions will be at the annual PRHS Trunk or Treat on October 26th, 2016. We hope to see all of you at our booth.

GRITS

Team 1261 will be attending the Georgia Robotics Invitational Tournament and Showcase on October 22. We can’t wait to compete!

MakerFaire

The Robo Lions welcomed October celebrating fall outdoors in Decatur at the annual celebration of the most creative minds around- Atlanta MakerFaire! It was our team’s first time at the two-day event, but we were in great company and had a great time with so many of the other Georgia robotics teams. We had a steady stream of people driving VEX robots, catching the ball from our 2014 competition robot, and learning about sensors with our all new sensor board! Many thanks go out to all who gave their time, effort, and materials to make this weekend a success, especially Atlanta MakerFaire! 20161002_140454-1903x1070
