MakerFaire

The Robo Lions welcomed October celebrating fall outdoors in Decatur at the annual celebration of the most creative minds around- Atlanta MakerFaire! It was our team’s first time at the two-day event, but we were in great company and had a great time with so many of the other Georgia robotics teams. We had a steady stream of people driving VEX robots, catching the ball from our 2014 competition robot, and learning about sensors with our all new sensor board! Many thanks go out to all who gave their time, effort, and materials to make this weekend a success, especially Atlanta MakerFaire! 20161002_140454-1903x1070

Duluth Fall Festival

Duluth Fall Festival: The Robo Lions had a STEM-tacular time at the Duluth Fall Festival, amplifying their mighty roar as they marched on in the parade. With shooting t-shirts from the famous Jeff the T-Shirt Bot and spreading smiles to attendees of all ages, it was an incredible day to embrace the members of the community! This year was even greater than the last, and are thankful for the opportunity to represent our amazing school as well as our robo-tastic team! img_20160924_104737

Suwannee Day Parade

The team had a super showing for the Suwanee Day Parade, celebrating the idea “Super City, Super People” as the STEM Heros of Tomorrow! After shooting beach-balls and T-shirts from our float, we were recognized as most entertaining. We finished off the day shooting T-shirts off the stage in Town Center. Many thanks to our sponsors who helped us make it happen and the City of Suwanee! img_9931

The Robo Lions Visit the Maxxis Facility in Thanks for their Many Years of Support

On August 26, 2016, the Robo Lions were invited to the Maxxis Facility to present the organization’s efforts in advancing the STEM initiative. The team explained the dynamics of their 2016 Stronghold Robot including vision tracking and its autonomous abilities. We explained how this year proved to be fierce but it was no match for Team 1261 who bore through bent metals and broken LEDs. We also demonstrated the astounding durability of the robot’s tires, supplied by Maxxis themselves! The tires braced themselves through 5 FRC competitions, maneuvering over 9 different obstacles randomly placed on the field after every few matches. We loved the chance to demonstrate how Maxxis’ support helped us out throughout the season, and are incredibly grateful for the warm welcome they offered us this week.

Robo Lions visit ZF

The Robo Lions visited ZF on June 29, 2016 to give a presentation on what the team has achieved this past season. With a brief powerpoint and a quick demo of our 2016 Stronghold bot Khanquistador, the team ended the presentation by presenting one of our year’s sponsors with a plaque as a token of their utmost appreciation. As a finishing touch to the end of a fantastic visit, ZF provided the team with an inside tour of the company, showing us some of their own robots! Team 1261 thanks ZF for such a great experience, and hopes to continue sponsor relations for years to come.

2015-2016 Team 1261 Summary

The team had a blast at their Annual Robots at the Ridge VEX competition on Saturday, November 21st, at Peachtree Ridge High School. One of Team 1261’s VEX teams even made it to the quarter-final rounds! This year also marked the very first year the Robo Lions participated in FIRST’s FRC Music Video Parody Contest, where they received an honorable mention! The FRC season kicked off with another collaboration party with 2974 Walton Robotics, as the two teams looked over the 2016 Stronghold game manual and brainstormed a variety of winning strategies. This year also brought another trip to the FRC World Championships in St. Louis, MO after winning 2 out of 3 district events attended by the team, along with two of its members making Dean’s List finalists. In addition to those stunning awards, the team was able to win Excellence in Engineering, Industrial Design, and Innovation in Control due to their sleek construction of their 2016 robot, Khanquistador! To top it off, Team 1261 Robo Lions finished the year by being the only Georgia FRC team to pummel through to the division semi-finals of the World Championship before being defeated and the first Gwinnett County team to win the prestigious Chairman’s Award! This is the best finish the team has had in its twelve-year history and hope to do even better next year!
